Community Projects

Building an inclusive and supportive freediving community is at the heart of everything we do here at Mara Adventures. From The Oban Pool Babes to running a community led freediving project with The Underwater Cinema in Timor-Leste, our mission statement is simple - to safely nurture and grow a freediving community, which is accessible to all, no matter background, race, financial situation, gender or sexuality.

The Oban Pool Babes

The Oban Pool Babes is a pool freediving club that really emphasises fun and inclusivity over all else. Based from the Oban community leisure centre Atlantis, the club has grown in strength and popularity over the last year.  Trained and coached by me every week, I will incorporate my knowledge of pool training, and fondness for underwater workouts to bring a dynamic and fun work out every week. The club have recently hosted their first ever Scottish Pool Freediving competition, to great success and which there will be more of in the future. To join the club you must have at least a Molchanov Lap 1 certificate or Aida 2* Pool.

Club trains weekly on Wednesday evenings. To inquire, email below.

The Underwater Cinema

The Underwater Cinema is a project incredibly close to my heart. Founded by member Dedy and 10 other passionate young Timorese ocean advocates, the group have made it their mission to educate Timorese youth about the beauty, magic and fragility of the ocean. They do this by running weekly beach cleans followed by public snorkelling sessions, putting on incredibly powerful art installation and concerts, talking on podcasts and Timorese TV.

I am a proud mentor of the project. I have assisted the primary members in completing their Molchanov freediving Wave 1 qualifications and have been starting the journey with some Wave 2's. I have also helped them naviagte how to best run a public snorkel session, write a dynamic risk assessment, safely lead a group in the water and taught them all their EFR (emergency first responder course.)

This project is ongoing and could not be possible without the genorosity of Reho travel.
